As the winter months fade away, my anticipation for Hamptons summers grows stronger. Few portrayals capture the essence of understated iconic luxury home style as impeccably as Nancy Meyers did in "Something's Gotta Give." Whether your design ethos leans towards minimalism or maximalism, the ultimate goal is to craft a space that warmly embraces family and friends. Join me as I unveil some of my favorite stores that will effortlessly elevate your home's aesthetic:
1. Hudson Grace, Sag Harbor:
In every Nancy Meyers film, the kitchen stands as the heart of the home. It's the nucleus where families and friends converge, or where you relish in the tranquility of a quiet weekend, embracing the Italian concept of "dolce far niente" – the sweetness of doing nothing, but simply indulging in restful activities for pure amusement. Your kitchen should exude warmth, beckoning guests to gather, while also being primed for entertaining with an array of exquisite dishes, glassware, platters, and more.
2. Mecox Gardens,Watermill :
Expanding your collection of table settings is just the beginning; next up, accessories take center stage. Think about the heart of every Nancy Meyers kitchen – it's adorned with fabulous accessories atop the island and artfully scattered throughout the room. In my design philosophy, homes should feel "lived in" – after all, an empty home lacks soul. Accessories infuse personality and warmth, transforming a space into a welcoming sanctuary.
3. The Monogram Shop, East Hampton :
There's something undeniably charming about monogrammed touches in a home – they add a personal flair that instantly makes guests feel welcome. From monogrammed items to quirky cocktail napkins and hand towels in guest bathrooms, these little details elevate the experience of being in your space. And let's not forget about supporting local favorites – incorporating items from nearby artisans and shops adds a unique touch and supports your community.
With an election year upon us, get ready for a bit of lighthearted fun as the "election count" makes its way onto windows and front porches. Keep an eye out for the tally based on sales of those whimsical plastic cups – soon enough, we might have a hint of which way the wind is blowing on the East End. It's all part of the delightful tapestry of life in the Hamptons!
4. Clic Home Store, Easthampton:
Meeting Christiane Celle at her inaugural Calypso Store in St. Barths back in 1993 was a moment of serendipity. Since then, she's been my ultimate source for authentic French bohemian style that effortlessly exudes elegance. With an eye for design that's truly unmatched, she's responsible for bringing Jane Birkin's iconic "chic" to the East End of Long Island and single-handedly shaping the Nolita neighborhood in Downtown NYC. Whether you're in search of plush pillows, exquisite table settings, or stunning photographs to grace your walls, Clic is your one-stop destination for infusing the essence of both the Hamptons and St. Barths into your home. With Christiane's curated selection, you can effortlessly transform your space into a haven of refined yet relaxed sophistication.
5. Serena & Lily, Wainscott:
As we discussed last week, luxurious and comfortable bedding, along with plush bath towels, are absolute essentials for me. When it comes to ensuring a restful night's sleep and a pampering bath experience, there's simply no compromise. That's why Serena & Lily has emerged as a favorite destination of mine. Their exquisite bedding collections and sumptuous bath linens elevate the everyday, transforming your home into a sanctuary of comfort and style. Plus, their range of last-minute items for both indoor and outdoor embellishment ensures you're always prepared to host in effortless luxury.
6. Via Coquina, Sag Harbor:
Exploring home shopping in the Hamptons unveils a treasure trove of independent stores curated by savvy, well-heeled merchants. These establishments offer assortments sourced from around the globe, enriching your home with distinctive flair. While anyone can peruse big-box retailers, it's the curated pieces from our travels and experiences that truly elevate a space. If you crave the charm of saying, "I picked this up in Greece or Capri," look no further than this meticulously curated selection of home items (not to mention stunning jewelry) that captures the essence of Mediterranean style right here on the East Coast.
7. Monc XIII, Sag Harbor:
If you follow me on Instagram, you've likely seen me sharing snapshots from Monc XIII, the brainchild of Natasha Esch, nestled in charming Sag Harbor. Amidst the challenges of the pandemic, I stumbled upon one of my most captivating projects to date. Hunkered down in Bridgehampton, I found both inspiration and sourcing solace within the walls of this impeccably curated Mid-Century haven. A standout piece from Monc XIII gracing our latest project in San Francisco is a set of original Danish chairs from the 1960s, now adorned in the most luxurious boucle upholstery. It's a testament to the allure of blending the old with the new, infusing spaces with layers of history and intrigue. Home design, to me, is a symphony of elements, each contributing to a rich narrative. Mixing original pieces with modern finds adds depth and character, resulting in spaces that feel truly unique. Monc XIII is undeniably a gem in the Hamptons, offering a treasure trove of timeless design and endless possibilities.
8. 1818 Collective:
The 1818 Collective has quickly become a cherished addition to Sag Harbor's landscape over the past two summers, a brainchild of the creators behind Alt for Living. Nestled within the walls of a historic captain's house, this curated haven showcases a delightful mix of mid-century treasures. For me, design is an art form defined by proportion, form, and shape. The 1818 Collective embodies this philosophy flawlessly, illustrating how old and new can harmoniously coexist. Each furnishing is carefully chosen to complement the size and scale of the rooms, offering a masterclass in spatial balance. As you embark on your own home furnishing journey, consider the lessons echoed by spaces like the 1818 Collective. Pay attention to proportion and scale, ensuring that each piece enhances the overall harmony of your home. After all, thoughtful design transcends trends, creating spaces that stand the test of time.
9. Homenature, Southampton:
Homenature has truly cemented its presence in the market with its modern luxury coastal chic decor. Their approach strikes the perfect balance between welcoming and luxurious, yet maintains an understated charm that epitomizes relaxed summer elegance. From sumptuous pillows to cozy throws and exquisite accessories, Homenature never fails to inspire. Their curated collection is a testament to refined taste and impeccable craftsmanship, making it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking to elevate their home with a touch of coastal sophistication.
10. Merit, Southampton:
A new gem has emerged in Southampton, straight from the streets of LA – Merit, taking over the old Mecox Gardens location. It's a treasure trove of collectible design right here in the Hamptons, with a curated selection ready to grace your home with style and character. While I've never been much of a car person myself, I must admit, the collection of vintage Porsches and Land Rovers at Merit is truly something to behold. Prepare to be dazzled by these iconic vehicles, evoking the spirit of legends like Steve McQueen. Whether you're in search of unique furnishings or simply appreciate the allure of vintage automobiles, Merit promises an unforgettable experience for design enthusiasts and car aficionados alike.
